Aucklanders, particularly big and burly rugby blokes, are being urged to become part of history and get involved in the opening ceremony for the Rugby World Cup later this year.
Organisers said today they had extended their deadline for people to apply but if they did not get their names in by Sunday they would miss out.
Auckland choreographer Shona McCullagh, a member of the creative team for the opening ceremony, said hundreds of people had already volunteered but more were needed and time was running out.
She said participants did not need to be highly skilled performers. The emphasis was on athletic ability and enthusiasm.
"We need participants of all levels of ability to get involved. In particular we need lots of big burly blokes to represent New Zealand's strong rugby community."
She said of those who registered suitable candidates would attend a casting call so the organisers could decide how best to use them.
"There is a very simple group movement task that each applicant will be asked to complete. It's exciting and not scary. If you ever wanted an excuse to run out on to Eden Park and have fun, then this it," she said.
The first game is at Eden Park on September 9 with the final, also at Eden Park, on October 23.
All Blacks captain David Kirk held the Web Ellis Cup aloft at Eden Park when the All Blacks won the inaugural World Cup in 1987, the only time the All Blacks have won the trophy.
