Hokidoki said: "Dogs are definitely man's best friends but like people, if they are mistreated and or not socially integrated when they are young, some individual dogs can become anti-social, un-predictable and potentially dangerous as they grow older.
"With children; we cannot hold the parents responsible when their offspring turn violent, but with dogs, we should treat the owners of dogs that are responsible for unprovoked attacks on people as totally responsible, and they should be held to account and charged with assault ... no such thing as a bad mongrel; just bad mongrel owners."
Margaret Mcnaughton said: "I think it is polite if people ask to pat the dog first then it is up to the owner to say yes or no ... you cant just always blame the people that own the dogs.
"When my son sees a dog while we are walking I always tell him to ask the owner first so there are responsible people out there too."
Michelle Toweel said people should educate children not to run up to dogs that were being walked on a lead.
"Dogs get frightened too.
"Can you imagine walking down the road and some random stranger runs up to you and starts touching you? I'm sure you wouldn't smile and start liking them."
Sally Lewis said: "I have beware of dog and dog on loose signs on my gate, you can't miss them, yet some people still will just open the gate and walk to the door.
"Really how dumb can you be? The last one I told him he was stupid for not heeding the signs, my dogs guard me when I'm at home, it is their job so not my fault if you get scared or bitten (not that my dogs bite but, well, any dog can bite)."
