Sacked former Cabinet Minister David Benson-Pope will know by the end of the day whether he still has a job.
Labour is selecting its candidate for the Dunedin South seat, currently held by Mr Benson-Pope. Don Pryde, who is president of the Engineers Union, is one of the challengers who have put up their hand to represent the electorate. The others with their eye on the job include PR Consultant Clare Curran and PSA man Keith McFadyen.
Mr Benson-Pope's future lies in the hands of a panel of seven Labour Party officials.
Last year, the MP resigned from Cabinet following controversy over his handling of the hiring of Madeleine Setchell as a senior communications advisor for the Environment Ministry.
Ms Setchell's partner was the chief press secretary for National Party leader John Key.
