Fraudster hid relationship to get more money out of Winz, court papers show.
A woman living in the country's most valuable state house cheated Work and Income New Zealand out of more than $88,000 by lying about not being in a relationship for six years.
Michelle Tutakeha Hawke, 47, was claiming a domestic purposes benefit and had told the agency she was single while living at 38 Takitimu Drive in Orakei, a property valued at $1.3 million.
The 47-year-old lived with her children and mother when she applied for the benefit in September 2000, but investigators from the Ministry of Social Development discovered her boyfriend, Dean Karl Gregory, had moved in in April 2005.
Last month, the Herald revealed that Hawke had been ordered out of the most valuable property on Housing New Zealand's books after being convicted of benefit fraud, and she would not be rehomed. The corporation is expected to sell the property.
