Police want public help to catch whoever threw molotov cocktails at the Beehive yesterday.
Parliamentary security staff were alerted by a Herald on Sunday reporter heading to work at the parliamentary press gallery in the morning.
He found a broken bottle neck still smoking, along with blackened tarmac on Parliament's forecourt.
Soon afterwards police and security staff discovered another scorch mark, indicating a second bottle had been thrown.
Detective Inspector Gary Knowles of the Wellington CIB said it appeared the attack occurred sometime between 9am and 9.30am.
Two beer bottles filled with accelerant appeared to have been thrown at the Beehive from Parliament's forecourt. One hit the wall of the base block the Beehive sits on before hitting the ground. The other landed on the roof.
Mr Knowles said police wanted to hear from any member of the public who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious.
"We believe that someone must have seen this person approach the building and throw them."
