A bee appears to have caused a crash between two motorcycles near Milton yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 1 at Milburn shortly after 1pm. Senior Constable Jim Jordan, of Milton, said two Dunedin men were riding their motorcycles south on State Highway 1 when one rode into the back of the other.
One 59-year-old man, riding a BMW, told police a bee flew into his helmet, landing on his mouth, and made its way into his nose.
It appeared that by the time he had removed the bee from his helmet, he was too late to prevent his machine running into the back of the Ducati, which was stopped at roadworks, Snr Const Jordan said.
He did not believe the man suffered any stings, but had pollen on his face.
