The dusty road near Whangarei where New Zealand-born British pop star Daniel Bedingfield crashed early this month has become a tourist attraction.
District information centre manager Cheryl Lee said that apart from asking "what is there to see in Whangarei in two or three hours?" many people wanted to know how to get to the accident spot on Kauri Mountain Rd. Bedingfield is facing a charge of careless use of a vehicle as a result of the crash, in which he fractured vertebrae in his neck.
