KEY POINTS:
It's not often that Marc Ellis is offended by full-frontal nudity.
But when Karen McKinlay disrobed and made a mad dash on to the pitch during the Phoenix-LA Galaxy match - featuring none other than David Beckham - even Ellis couldn't keep his anger under wraps.
It wasn't McKinlay's naked ambition that annoyed Ellis. It was the fact she exposed Mintshot to possible ridicule by having the new brand name stencilled for all to see on each buttock.
At the time she was sure fun-loving Ellis would appreciate the stunt for the new web-based business he has been promoting.
"In the past, on Sports Cafe, Marc had said he'd help streakers out with fines," 34-year-old McKinlay said. "With his new business and the Rangitoto eruption stunt, I thought he might enjoy the advertising - but apparently not."
Ellis, she admitted, had no knowledge of what she had planned.
"I emailed Ellis [a few days later] introducing myself as the Beckham streaker," McKinlay said.
"I asked if there was any chance he'd come to the party with my court fines because he had been supportive to other streakers. A few days later he replied saying that although he found it amusing he couldn't help me out."
Ellis has fielded numerous calls about his involvement.
"She did it without our knowledge," Ellis said.
"When she emailed me to pay her court costs I told her to p*** off.
"I'm bloody disappointed that she did it without our knowledge. The cheek of the woman to ask us to pay her legal costs is extraordinary. She's lucky we didn't sue her. If we were going to do that we'd get someone a damn sight better looking than her."
McKinlay was fined $200 in Wellington's District Court but said flying to and from Wellington meant she was out of pocket by $600. In an attempt to recoup her money, she tried to auction her g-string and gold hat on auction website Trade Me.
The highest bid she received was $11.50.
Most people wanted to know if McKinlay would wash the underwear before handing it over to the lucky bidder. Her answer was: "No, I didn't want to devalue it".
"I wanted to get close to Beckham," McKinlay said. "I play top-level soccer myself for Waitakere City. I've been playing since I was 10 and my whole family play."
