The Queenstown home of missing pilot John Beckenridge has gone on the market.

The large detached bungalow in Lake Hayes Estate will be auctioned on April 20.

It is more than a year since the 64-year-old disappeared with his 11-year-old stepson, Mike Zhao-Beckenridge.

He picked Mike up from school in Invercargill on March 13, 2015, breaking a court order.

Eight days later, his car was found at the bottom of an 88m cliff near Curio Bay with no sign of the pair. Police say a criminal inquiry is ongoing.

Mike lived with his stepfather in the Queenstown house for about a year before moving to Invercargill to live wih his mother, Fiona [Fengjuan] Lu, in Invercargill.

The three-bedroom 271sq m house has a rateable value of $700,000 but is likely to sell for double that. It is owned by the Ozprey Trust, of which Mr Beckenridge is a trustee.

A dispute over who gets the sale proceeds is unlikely to be settled until a coroner rules on the case.
