A man beaten up in an Auckland reserve at the weekend remained critically ill in an induced coma this morning.
The 37-year-old man lay for nearly eight hours in the Maybury Reserve in the Auckland suburb of Glenn Innes after the attack on Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Police have arrested a 19-year-old and are speaking with two other young men in connection with the assault.
The Glen Innes man will appear in the Auckland District Court today charged with common assault, police said.
At least one passerby walked past the victim after the attack believing he had been drinking and was asleep.
Police were called at 8am on Sunday and the man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and put into a drug-induced coma to help his recovery.
Police say they are following several leads in the hunt for the offender or offenders.
