Wellington metal four-piece Beastwars unleash their Wairarapa debut at King Street Live in Masterton tonight.
Lead singer Matt Hyde said yesterday the last time he took the stage in the region was with long defunct Wellington punk act Microwave Babies at a punk festival at the Solway Showgrounds in 1987.
Hyde said the capital city four-piece formed 20 years later "at first just playing Monday night jams" before they started staging gigs in support of their first album in 2011.
Beastwars also comprises bassist James Woods, guitarist Clayton Anderson and drummer Nathan Hickey and the band are fresh back from transtasman gigs and will play Masterton tonight as part of a seven-date New Zealand tour in support of their latest album, Blood Becomes Fire.
The album has won artist Nick Keller a nomination for Best Album Art in the 2013 NZ Music Awards.
