KEY POINTS:
Police have cordoned off a large area near the beach at Orewa, north of Auckland, after an injured man turned up at the town's police station.
The man, who had apparently been stabbed, stumbled into the station at about 1.45am. He was taken to North Shore Hospital for treatment, but there no information is available about his condition.
Police are not saying what, if anything, they have found in the cordoned area.
