KEY POINTS:
This Father's Day, do something special for your dad, as he won't have as many Father's Days as your mum will have Mother's Days.
Statistics New Zealand has released some facts about fathers to mark Father's Day tomorrow.
Government Statistician Geoff Bascand said fathers on average had seven fewer Father's Days than mothers had Mother's Days, because men generally started parenting later in life and women lived longer.
Mr Bascand said the average age of a father of a new baby was 33, but one in 100 babies had fathers over 50.
And today's newborn babies had fathers who were, on average, five years older than their own fathers were when they were born.
Fathers were also more likely to help around the house than other men - 91 per cent of fathers did housework, cooking and cleaning, while only 79 per cent of men who were not living with a child did these things.
Fathers with a child under one were also running on 42 minutes less sleep than the average of 8.5 hours, said Mr Bascand.
More than a quarter (28 per cent) of babies born in New Zealand last year were to fathers who were not born in this country.
This compared with 22 per cent a decade ago.
