BBC World Service broadcasts in the Auckland region are currently off air.
The Auckland Radio Trust, which re-broadcasts the service, had hoped to transfer their programmes from 1476AM to 810AM at midnight on the 31st March.
However, Auckland Radio Trust service manager Vince Geddes said that "in spite of their best efforts", the radio frequency service of the Ministry of Economic Development were unable to complete the necessary paperwork due to staff illness.
He said this had led to a delay in the new frequency being registered by the Registrar of Radio Frequencies.
Mr Geddes added: "The Ministry have been most helpful, and we look forward to the licence being issued ASAP. We can then get back on air on 810AM.
"We would also like to apologise to our listeners and sponsors for this short break in our service to them."
The 1476 frequency has been taken over by Radio Pacific.
