Wing Commander Tom Fitzgerald, one of the last of New Zealand's "few" - those who flew in the 1940 Battle of Britain - has died in Christchurch at the age of 87.
Wing Commander Fitzgerald piloted 141 Squadron Defiants on night patrols defending London from the mid stages of the battle.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
