Two former stalwarts of Wairarapa basketball will be honoured at a tournament to be played at the Genesis Recreation Centre in Masterton over Labour weekend.
The six teams contesting the men's section will be playing for the Ralph Carroll Memorial Trophy while the
six women's teams will be competing for the Sharon Waitere Memorial Trophy.
Both Carroll and Waitere coached a number of club and representatives sides in the Wairarapa region and
they will both have offspring playing
in the Hiona team which will be defending the women's title they won last year.
In that side will be Sharon Waitere's daughter Eboni and Ralph Carroll's daughter Geraldine.
The other Wairarapa team in the women's section is Block Styles which will be spearheaded by Kelly Te Whare and there will also be four club sides from the Wellington area.
The defending champions in the men's section, Highwayman Motel Scorpions, will be back again and with ex-Tall Black Kent Mori and current Palmerston Norths Jets player Dan Simon in their side they will take a power of beating.
Block Styles will also field a men's team with Henare Te Whare their mainstay and a third Wairarapa side, yet to be named, will be led by Jason Brown.
Three Wellington club teams will complete the men's line-up.
Tournament play will get underway at 9am on Saturday with the finals scheduled for about midday on Monday.
