Increasing the profile of their sport and recruiting new members are major objectives for the Wairarapa Basketball Association which will hold their annual meeting at Sport Wairarapa's headquarters in Masterton next Tuesday night.
Committee members are intent on building on progress which has seen over 500 school pupils participating in various leagues over the past 12 months.
In the boys competition Kuranui College narrowly beat Wairarapa College for the senior division title for the second successive year and Makoura College took the junior division from Wairarapa College
At intermediate level Masterton Intermediate comfortably saw of their challengers in the north and Martinborough Primary did likewise in the south.
Calling the tune in the primary division were Douglas Park and the Carterton Fivers.
The senior girls college league was won by St Matthew's from Wairarapa Colelge but in the junior girls division it was Wairarapa College first and St Matthew's second.
The Wairarapa College senior boys team did the district proud when they travelled to Napier for the regional finals and though placed 18 th out of 22 teams they won plaudits for their commitment and improvement.
Terms two and three of the school year saw the association's junior development officer, Stacey Wakefield, run a development programme in primary schools throughout the Wairarapa. Miniball was introduced to a number of these schools with sessions lasting five to 10 weeks.
Currently students from UCOL are organising a successful summer league in which matches are played at the YMCA on Thursday evenings. Ten teams are taking part there.
Starting this Tuesday were a series of training sessions for age group players and these will continue for the next month.
