Basketball will take centre stage at the opening of the Genesis Energy Recreation Centre in Masterton on Saturday.
Two national men's league teams, the G and H Hawks from Hawke's Bay and the Manawatu Property Brokers Jets, will clash in a game which is scheduled to get under way at 7pm and which will feature some of the country's leading players.
Commentating the show case match will be New Zealand Junior Tall Black coach Tim McTamney, who is an old boy of Chanel College.
Earlier in the day McTamney will run a workshop for secondary school players and players from the Hawks and Jets will be involved in skill sessions with any children interested in learning the intricacies of the game.
The curtain-raiser to the Hawks v Jets match will feature the winners of the Wairarapa secondary schools senior boys competition for 2004, Kuranui College, and their arch rivals Wairarapa College. It will start at 4.30pm.
