An Invercargill man who was brutally attacked in front of his 10-year-old son last night has been released from hospital.
Three masked men, possibly armed with a pistol, knocked on the door of a suburban Glengarry house shortly before 8pm and assaulted the man when he opened the door.
The man was released from Southland Hospital this afternoon and had been interviewed by police, Detective Sergeant Mike McCloy said.
His son, who witnessed the attack but was not harmed, was being cared for by family, he said.
A dog at the house was also serious injured.
Mr McCloy said police were in the early stages of their investigation and had made no arrests.
The trio's getaway vehicle was described as a white Japanese two-door car, possibly with a spoiler and a blue or green stripe down the back.
Anyone with information was urged to contact Invercargill police.
