An off-duty police officer who was bashed while trying to break up a fight in Hastings earlier this month has been discharged from hospital.
Detective Daniel Foley, 51, was picking up his teenage daughter from a party on Totara St in the early hours of October 11 when a fight between about six people broke out on the street.
When Mr Foley tried to intervene, he was attacked by the group and knocked unconscious, suffering numerous head and facial injuries.
He spent several nights in intensive care at Hawke's Bay District Hospital before being moved to a general ward last week.
Hospital spokeswoman Anna Kirk said Mr Foley was discharged yesterday afternoon and was now recuperating at home.
City Charles Timu, 17, appeared in Napier District Court last week charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm over the incident.
Police say other people are believed to have been involved in Mr Foley's attack and inquiries are continuing.
