A seriously injured man found lying outside the Foxton police station on Tuesday night is in a stable condition today, police say.
Two officers inside the station heard the 19-year-old man's moans and discovered him lying unconscious about 11pm.
It was not known how long he had been lying there.
He was in a stable condition in Wellington Hospital but his injuries were potentially life-threatening.
Detective Johnny Oram said yesterday it appeared the man had been attacked and then driven to the police station where he was carried or dragged from the car and left.
A 22-year-old man from Foxton, believed to be known to the victim, was arrested yesterday and charged with assault.
He would appear in Levin District Court today.
Last night police said they believed they had found the scene of the assault.
They executed a warrant in the Foxton area and identified a house where the assault may have taken place.
The house and a car were secured and would be forensically examined by ESR today.
It was too early to say whether a weapon was used in the assault, Mr Oram said.
