KEY POINTS:
A 10-week-old baby boy is still in a serious condition after being attacked in Lower Hutt on the weekend.
The boy was taken to hospital early Sunday suffering bruising and a head injury.
He was later transferred to Starship Hospital in Auckland for specialist care.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Cooper said today the boy's condition was serious but not necessarily critical.
A 28-year-old relative of the baby is due to appear in Lower Hutt District Court tomorrow charged with assault in connection with the baby's injuries.
Police have refused to say whether the accused is the baby's father.
