KEY POINTS:
A murder trial has been abandoned in Auckland after the court was told that police had started a review of some of the witnesses.
Jeffrey Key, 25, was charged with the baseball bat murder of Riki Mafi, 17, in the Otara town centre, South Auckland, in September 2006.
The trial began before a jury of six men and six women last week but yesterday came to a halt and the jury was sent home.
Today, Judge Patrick Keane discharged the jury and told them that the police investigation would look at the possible role others might have played in Mr Mafi's death.
He suppressed details about the reasons for the aborting of the trial and remanded Key in custody for a callover later this month to look at details for a second trial.
