Baseball bat attack on teen

Whangarei police are appealing for information from witnesses to an attack on a young man who was badly beaten with a baseball bat in the city early on Saturday.

The 17-year-old was attacked by a group of other young men in Mahana Place, Otaika, about 3.30am.

Detective Shane Mawston said the victim was punched and kicked to the ground before being beaten with a baseball bat. He was transferred to Auckland hospital where his condition yesterday was said to be improving.

So far police have arrested three teenagers aged 18, 16 and 15.
