A barefoot prisoner who escaped from police custody on Saturday morning has been recaptured in Dunedin.
Steven Allen Shaw, 43, was expected to appear in Dunedin District Court today charged with escaping from custody, as well as charges of burglary and possession of an offensive weapon.
Shaw escaped on Saturday morning after a court appearance. He had been taken by police, without handcuffs, to a house in South Dunedin's Kirkaldy St to help with the investigation, and managed to give them the slip.
He was barefoot when he escaped.
A police spokesman said today Shaw was arrested about 3.30pm yesterday at a South Dunedin address and had spent the night in custody.
