The Kapiti Coast bar owner who has banned patrons aged under-20 is making no apologies, despite suggestions he is breaching the Human Rights Act.
Jamie Williams of Monteith's Brewery Bar, in Paraparaumu, is taking a stand after more than 250 young drinkers left his new $2 million bar looking like a war zone.
Fights broke out, including some between girls, people urinated in dark corners of the garden bar, glasses were smashed, toilet walls were defaced and patrons carried out a spitting competition.
Mr Williams says that sort of behaviour is intolerable and he is determined to make sure such patrons do not come back.
The bar has sent out an email informing people of the weekend ban on under-20s and has hired extra security staff.
Patrons under 25 can meet with management and have their name added to a register to be kept at the door.
