A Featherston man who lied to police about his identity has been fined more than $600.
Dash Topou Andrews, 17, unemployed, was convicted and sentenced, in his absence, in Masterton District Court this week for giving false details and driving when unlicensed.
According to the police summary of facts, on May 8 Andrews had been forbidden to drive due to his licence being in re-instate status.
At about 8.30am on June 27 Andrews was driving in Mandeville, Southland in his sister's Mitsubishi Galant. He was stopped by police and gave his brother's details. When questioned further Andrews admitted giving false details and admitted he was on a re-instate licence. Further checks uncovered that he was forbidden to drive. In explanation Andrews said he was driving to Gore with his sister and friend to catch a bus back home.
