The sentencing of an Auckland investment banker charged with causing the death of a workmate at an office Christmas party has been delayed for two weeks.
Matthew Schofield, 27, was to have appeared for sentencing in the High Court at Auckland today after earlier admitting the manslaughter of Gareth MacFadyen, 24, at a Merrill Lynch Christmas party late last year when he set fire to Mr MacFadyen's grass skirt.
Schofield also pleaded guilty to causing injury to Angela Offwood, 29, who was also badly burnt.
However, Justice Hansen granted a request from Schofield's lawyer, Stuart Grieve QC, who asked the court in an application last night to delay sentencing as not all the victim impact reports had been finalised and he was not ready to go ahead with the hearing.
Schofield will now be sentenced for both charges on April 24.
