A man accused of robbing three Auckland banks appeared in court this morning.
Andrew Springall, 35, appeared briefly at the Auckland District Court, charged with three counts of aggravated robbery.
He is alleged to have attacked three Auckland National Bank branches over six months.
Police found him yesterday morning at his Mt Roskill home after fielding dozens of calls from the public, following media coverage of the robberies - which included a front-page splash in the Herald - last week.
In court today, media were not allowed to take photos of Springall, who wore a dark and loose t-shirt, had shoulder-length wavy hair and was clean shaven.
He appeared calm and later acknowledged someone in the public gallery, by giving a small wave.
He was not given bail and he is to be remanded in custody and will be in court again on February 8, when he will enter a plea.
