Auckland police are investigating the armed robbery of a south Auckland bank today.
Two men, one armed with a long barrelled shotgun, robbed two security guards of a cash box at a BNZ bank on Ti Rakau Dr, Manukau just before 10am, police said.
The guards were making a delivery to the bank.
Acting Inspector Danny Meade said cash boxes are designed to be hard to get into unless you have the right key or code.
"Some of them have ink cartridges in them which would spoil the cash and others have sirens attached to them. Without knowing the specific box, it would be difficult to say exactly what would happen."
The men were dressed in dark blue overalls and left in a stolen dark grey Nissan Cefiro, which was recovered by police nearby.
No one was hurt during the robbery, police said.
