A ban is being urged on the use of closed circuit television cameras in public toilets.
Veteran journalist Neale McMillan has presented a petition to Parliament's Justice and Electoral Select Committee after discovering cameras in the Kaikoura public toilets.
Mr McMillan says the surveillance cameras in the male toilets have a direct view of the urinals and one is directly above a cubicle.
"I find it offensive and obnoxious that somebody unknown would be filming someone engaged in a very private bodily function."
Mr McMillian says the local council justifies the use of cameras as a means of combating graffiti.
