The number of New Zealanders unaccounted for after the Bali bombing yesterday dropped from 27 to 22 after police took over the task of finding them.
National crime manager Detective Superintendent Rob Pope said that in one day police traced five people thought to have been in Bali at the time of the car bombing.
The couple and three individuals were safe and well.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade handed over the task of looking for the Kiwis on the Indonesian island. "We've got great resources, and that's reflected in the speedy resolution in locating these people," Mr Pope said.
The bomb attack killed 180, including Mark Parker of Timaru. Jared Gane, formerly of Blenheim, is also believed to have died but his death is unconfirmed.
Former Aucklander Jamie Wellington is missing presumed dead. At least seven New Zealanders were injured.
A total of 1327 New Zealanders thought to be in Bali at the time of the bombing have been found. Mr Pope said police networks in New Zealand and overseas would be used to try to find the remaining 22.
