Coach John Kendal was delighted with the strong showing made by Wairarapa-Bush at the central region women's rugby sevens tournament over the weekend.
While the wild winter weather conditions weren't conducive to running rugby, Wairarapa-Bush were always looking to attack, none more so than Black Fern Shakira Baker whose pace and strength was obvious in several tries scored from runs started inside her own territory.
Also impressing for Wairarapa-Bush were youngsters Kata Matapuku and Te Aniwa Hurihanganui, who both injected speed and enthusiasm when coming off the bench.
Pool play saw Wairarapa-Bush beat Wellington No 2 12-10, draw with Wellington No 1 12-12 and beat Hawke's Bay 14-5.
They then played off for third and fourth with Wellington No 1 and again the result was a draw, 14-14.
