Fiji's interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama is expected to visit Auckland this weekend to campaign in advance of Fiji's planned elections next month.
The Fiji Sun has reported Bainimarama will arrive on Friday and leave on Monday after attending meetings in the Fijian community.
He is seeking election as Prime Minister under the banner of his new 'Fiji First" political party, and the Fiji Sun said it would be his first visit since the coup in December 2006. It said his aim was to address what he claimed was "misinformation" circulated by his opponents.
Both New Zealand and Australia have recently softened travel restrictions on those involved in the Bainimarama regime after a firm election date was set and party and voter registration began.
Prime Minister John Key said he had no plans to meet with Bainimarama.
