Ousted leader Laisenia Qarase and other critics are deluding themselves if they believe Fiji will return to its pre-coup system of governance, its self-appointed prime minister Frank Bainimarama says.
Commodore Bainimarama, who seized power in a bloodless coup in December 2006, wants to change the country's electoral system before a poll expected next year.
Commodore Bainimarama has come under fire from countries including Australia for seeking to change Fiji's communal voting system, which allocates some seats in Parliament along ethnic lines.
Last year, he promised Pacific leaders he would not alter the country's political system before the election, but soon afterwards he claimed the current system was institutionalised racism.
