While police have been busy busting drink-drivers this weekend, the bailiffs were cashing in.
On Friday and Saturday nights, bailiffs joined officers at drink-drive checkpoints in Manukau in South Auckland to nail drivers with outstanding fines. They executed 58 warrants involving fines of around $104,000.
Some drivers paid up in full, handing over cash totalling just more than $9,000. Fifty-five vehicles were seized in the exercise and 130 people will face drink-drive charges.
Manukau police set up seven checkpoints at key locations and more than 80 staff were involved in the blitz in which 18,002 vehicles were stopped.
