A 25-year-old appearing in the Auckland District Court on charges of assaulting and threatening to kill his girlfriend's sister tried to be bailed to the alleged victim's home.
The oversight was realised when a member of the victim's family wrote to the police prosecutor pleading for Freedom Chance Pirini to be kept in custody, because of concerns about the family's safety if Pirini was released.
Pirini was remanded in custody without plea and will appear again later this month.
