Two of the five male teenagers charged over two assaults in the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes, one of which killed a 37-year-old man, have been granted bail.
A third has been denied bail and a decision on bail for two others will be made today.
The charges were laid following the attack in the early hours of April 1 in Maybury Reserve which killed Thomas Martin, and an assault on a 51-year-old security guard later that morning.
Police prosecutor Michael Mann said a 14-year-old charged with murdering Mr Martin will continue to have bail on strict conditions after his appearance in the Auckland Youth Court yesterday.
A 17-year-old charged only with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in connection with the attack on the security guard was granted bail on strict conditions when he appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday.
Three males, aged 17, 18 and 19, have been charged in connection with both attacks. All face charges of murdering Mr Martin and a charge of wounding with intent in relation to the security guard.
Mr Mann said the 18-year-old was denied bail when he appeared in the Auckland Youth Court yesterday. The 17-year-old and 19-year-old applied for bail when they appeared in the Auckland Youth Court on Wednesday, and will have decisions on their applications made today. All five will reappear at a pre-depositions hearing on May 25.
Mr Martin was found unconscious in Maybury Reserve in wet weather by a passerby about 8am on April 1.
Police believe he had been lying unconscious for several hours and was possibly attacked around midnight.
The security guard was attacked when working in Glen Innes township about 2.20am on Sunday.
