KEY POINTS:
The man accused of killing his three-month-old twin sons in south Auckland last year has been granted bail.
Chris Kahui has been behind bars since August, the day after he was committed to trial, when a judge found that he breached his bail conditions by drinking alcohol and being in the presence of children under 12.
In the High Court at Auckland today Justice Paul Heath agreed there was "a medium risk" that Kahui could reoffend.
However, he granted bail, saying the fact Kahui needed to be in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day while in prison outweighed his risk of reoffending.
Justice Heath said the risk could be managed through bail conditions.
Kahui had breached his conditions three times when Judge James Rota denied him bail in Manukau District Court in August.
Kahui is due to stand trial in April next year accused of murdering his three-month-old twins Cru and Chris Kahui.
