A sportsman accused of resisting police, escaping custody and assaulting his partner and a police officer has been freed on bail. The man, who has name suppression, appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday.
The charges stem from an incident in a Queenstown bar last month. His lawyer said the man's partner had talked to victim services and had no safety fears.
However, police prosecutor Sergeant Colin MacDonald told the court that police had not spoken to her. "I do have concerns for her safety," he said.
Judge Thomas Everitt granted the man bail but because of a non-association order, he is not allowed to stay with his partner, be violent or drink alcohol.
