KEY POINTS:
Bail has been denied to three of those accused with abuse of three-year-old Nia Glassie.
Oriwa Kemp, William Curtis and Michael Pearson all applied for bail in the Rotorua District Court this afternoon and were denied. The reasons for the refusals are suppressed. A fourth member of the accused, Michael Curtis, will make a bail application next week.
A fifth accused, Wiremu Curtis, is expected to appear in Auckland District Court next week. Police have said more serious charges may be laid at a later date.
A crowd of around 50 protestors stood outside the court during today's court hearing. Some threatened to harm the accused.
