KEY POINTS:
The motorcycle gang member arrested in New Plymouth and wanted in Australia on serious charges has had his bail application turned down.
Peter Douglas Rauhina was due to appear in New Plymouth District Court yesterday to seek bail on charges of injuring with intent and disorderly behaviour arising from an alleged domestic incident.
Instead he appeared in Wanganui District Court before Judge Michael Radford, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
Rauhina was being held at Wanganui Prison, which made it easier for him to appear in court in Wanganui, police said.
Rauhina was allowed to leave Australia to attend his mother's funeral in New Zealand, despite facing charges of grievous bodily harm, going armed to cause fear, affray, assault occasioning bodily harm while in company and armed, as well as perjury.
He was arrested in New Plymouth last month and Brisbane police were keen to have him extradited back to Australia.
Judge Radford declined bail and remanded Rauhina to reappear in the Wanganui court on January 5.
