A man who fled the country while on bail on sex and abduction charges has been recaptured, following an international operation between New Zealand police, Interpol and Canadian authorities.
Detective Sergeant Brett Calkin, of Palmerston North CIB, said the 36-year-old taxi driver was charged with sexual violation, abduction and indecent assault last September.
He said the man was granted bail and then immediately left the country.
The man was recently found and arrested in Canada by Canadian authorities as a result of information they received from New Zealand police and Interpol, Mr Calkin said.
He was deported and arrived in Auckland yesterday, where he was met and arrested by Palmerston North police.
The man would appear in Manukau District Court today, and police would be opposing bail, Mr Calkin said.
