Children can sleep easy tonight, with the severe weather that has closed airports and created chaos across Europe unlikely to hinder Santa's important journey overnight.
MetService weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said he has consulted with Santa's aviation elves and can confirm he will be able to depart on time.
"Recent snow storms around the North Pole are not likely to pose much of a problem for such an experienced flight crew, but Rudolph's nose will be on its 'extra bright' setting just in case," he said.
"Wet and windy conditions around southern and central New Zealand are forecast to clear away in time for the annual Christmas flight."
Meanwhile, children will be able to track Santa's journey online with WeatherWatch's Live Santa Tracker.
Santa is expected to leave the North Pole at 2pm New Zealand Time.
The radar tracks where Santa, his reindeers and their important cargo are in the world, as well as what the weather is like where they are.
