Police are looking for a man who stopped gas bottles exploding after a fire was allegedly deliberately lit in an alley near a backpackers' hostel in Queenstown.
Queenstown police posted CCTV footage of the man's heroics on their Facebook page, along with an appeal for clues to his identity.
"We want to talk to this man who stopped the fire. If you know who this brave witness is, please let us know," police said.
The fire occurred in an alley adjacent to the Base Backpacker Building on Shotover St, Detective Sergeant Brian Cameron said yesterday.
Nobody was injured, but there was some damage to property.
An Australian man has been arrested.
