A former Invercargill woman has invented a backless brief to wear with trendy hipster jeans without underwear popping over the top.
Jan Digney, 44, says she has been blown away by the interest in her scrap of an invention.
She invented the backless brief last August after becoming frustrated because it was impossible to wear hipster jeans without underwear showing at the back. She also learned her daughters often did not wear any underwear, to avoid the same problem.
The cotton or lace briefs use adjustable straps that sit under the wearer's bottom. They are more comfortable, and practical, than other briefs, Mrs Digney says. "The good thing is they can't ride up or down your bottom. Your crack isn't exposed at any time."
Mrs Digney has lived on the Gold Coast for about 15 years.
Her invention has featured on NZ television and she is scheduled to appear on Australian TV this week.
The briefs can be bought over the internet and her Invercargill-based sister, Amanda Crack, is taking orders.
Mrs Digney says the knickers are already a big hit in Germany.
She has applied for a patent for the design in 123 countries and is developing a male version.
