Tuesday featured the finals in the women's Club Championships, postponed from the previous week because of the weather.
While we didn't get any rain this time the very blustery nor-wester made for testing conditions for the golfers.
The Silver and Bronze results were unusual in that both events saw back to back winners with Sereana Phillipps and Dara Carthew repeating their victories of 2006.
In the Silver Division Sereana handled the conditions to finish up a clear-cut winner over Deidre Walker.
Sereana started the day well, taking the first three holes. However, Deidre fought back strongly keeping the margin to just the three holes at lunch time.
Then, in the afternoon, Sereana leapt out to 5 up by starting strongly once again.
Deidre halved the next three but then Sereana exerted her superiority with five wins in a row, claiming the title at the 10th hole with a 10/8 victory.
The winner drove beautifully all day, in fact played grand all round golf apart from her putting which did let her down at times.
The Bronze Final saw Dara Carthew away to a brilliant beginning, winning five of the seven holes.
Her opponent, Jan Thompson, had problems in the morning rounds with tree trouble at several holes. At lunch time Dara looked in control at 8 up and then increased this to 10 up immediately after the break.
Jan finally settled down and some moments of brilliance saw her pull the margin back to five.
However, the gap was too much to make up with Dara closing with a 6/5 victory at the 13th hole.
The James Jug went to Marion Long with her win over Liz Bensaude while Rachel Monk took the Silver Plate by beating Brenda Blatchford and Hannah Meulenbroek was too good for Lusiana Williams in the Silver Flight.
The Bronze Plate went to Ngaire Stevens who beat Val Cobb while the Plate featured a win for Marilyn Beetham over Valda Anderson.
An interested spectator amongst the good crowd following the women's championship action was Sylvia Howden.
Sylvia won the Wairarapa Women's Open but never the Club Championship, finishing runner up on three occasions, twice to Joan Donald and once to Sandra Lory.
