Farm manager Jeff Peek hoists a golden gumboot aloft in triumph after he was yesterday named Rural Bachelor of the Year.
The 30-year-old beat seven other finalists to take a prize pool of equipment and clothes worth $23,000 at the annual agricultural event Fieldays, held at Mystery Creek near Hamilton
During the past week Peek, from Morrinsville, Waikato, took part in activities such as cooking, speed-fencing, building a flat-pack dog kennel, deboning a lamb and speed-dating.
Peek — who has a diploma in civil engineering — said being in the contest had already attracted attention from a number of eligible females.
"I'm certainly on the lookout for the right girl but, with the job I do, she would have to be prepared to get her hands a bit dirty," he said.
