A Hawke's Bay mother who has two children under the age of 2 with heart conditions wants to raise money so their dad can stay and spend time with them.
One-month-old Carlo Riki Rahui Monteith has never left the walls of Starship Hospital where he continues to fight every day for his life after being born with a dysplastic kidney, AV canal and coarctation of the aorta.
Mother Gina Rahui said it had been pretty stressful staying in Auckland alone as she didn't know what was going to happen or whether Carlo was going to make it day by day.
"I would love to have my partner Connor up here supporting us and spending time with Carlo and Mila. But we can't at the moment as he has to work back in Hawke's Bay so we can afford living costs."
The DHB funds return flights once a week, however Ms Rahui has set up a Givealittle page for support in hope of raising money so Mr Monteith could stop working for a period of time and live with them in Auckland.
The couple need to pay rent for their home in Napier so when Carlo is ready to leave they still have a place to go to in the Bay.
