A new-born baby boy has been found dead in the Auckland Domain.
The body was discovered at about 5pm yesterday by three people walking along Lover's Walk, about 300m from the duck pond.
The dead child was found wrapped in a towel and then placed in a blue, plastic Rendell's bag.
Detective Senior Sergeant Julian Rinckes says police suspect the baby was born during the weekend and was discarded not long before his body was found.
They say the baby is not Caucasian but cannot confirm its ethnicity.
They are concerned about the medical condition of the boy's mother and are asking for any information from the public that may help trace her.
A post-mortem examination was held on the boy's body this morning.
